This document sets out to help public health practitioners by explaining the momentum we are witnessing in population mental health, by promoting access to key resources, and by raising awareness of certain initiatives intended to support them. We first outline the international, national and provincial contexts in which public health’s population mental health-related goals are evolving, and examine guiding resources. Then we present actions taken in the United Kingdom and Europe which may prove useful in guiding Canadian public health practitioners in this field. Finally, we identify recent initiatives which have highlighted the assets and needs of the Canadian public health workforce with regards to population mental health.
