Population Mental Health and Wellness
Mental health is a necessary condition for living healthy, socially fulfilling and economically productive lives, and goes beyond the absence of a mental disorder. It requires whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches to fostering living conditions that produce good mental health and reduce mental health inequalities. These paradigmatic shifts in the way mental health is conceived point toward action for supporting mental health that is more aligned with Indigenous perspectives on mental wellness.
In this section you will find tools that provide a population mental health framework for public health, examine the context in which it is implemented in Canada, and highlight the emerging needs and roles of the public health workforce taking such action. The interactions between different approaches to population mental health promotion, including Indigenous approaches to mental wellness, are considered in this thematic area.
