Our colleagues Willy Dunbar and Val Morrison, Scientific Advisors at the NCCHPP, shared their expertise and sparked discussion on health inequalities during a presentation entitled Health Inequalities in Public Health Crises: How COVID-19 Impacted Existing Inequalities during the Metropolis Social Determinants of Health Conference held on October 2-3, 2023, in Gatineau.

In their panel, they discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed and exacerbated health inequalities by disproportionately affecting underserved populations, resulting in syndemic conditions. Their review aimed to explore the impact of COVID-19 on health inequalities, highlight the burden faced by these communities, and explore the interconnectedness of the social determinants of health.

The Metropolis Conference brought together experts from multiple disciplines to share knowledge, expertise and insights on the lessons learned from COVID-19 pandemic. To consult the conference program, click here.
