Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is an approach which is becoming more attractive to governments who wish to operationalize Health in all Policies (HiAP), a health promotion strategy that aims to improve population health. In 2002, in order to meet this objective, the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services implemented different mechanisms to foster HIA within the provincial government.
A growing interest in HIA as well as the need to share experiences from across Canada prompted the NCCHPP to organize an interprovincial workshop on the topic. This meeting, held in February 2009, brought together representatives from ministries of health from across Canada to share and learn about experiences, as well as to define potential needs in the support of HIA practices. The following document reports on the results and the findings that emerged from this meeting.
